Gameplay and design

I start this test as usual with one of the most important points for me, the gameplay. For this game in particular I associated it with the design because the two are intimately linked. The watchwords are clarity and precision, with retro design and gameplay. It's not like a Rogue-lite action where you can have a whole host of spells, there you have a few but they will have to be handled very well. You will have a few area-of-effect spells, but your basic spells will require management and a sense of timing. Enemies killed will spawn corrupt enemies, further adding to the challenge. The enemies will be tough and hit hard, like in old games, not to say it was harder before, but a little bit anyway: ')

We find the feeling of a game released in the 90s but with an interface of a game today. It's double-edged because it won't appeal to everyone, but if you like true retro style you will be won over.

Finally, Children of Morta is playable for two and it is really there that it will take all its meaning, because playing for example the mage or the archer in solo will prove to be complicated!

Rogue lite and character enhancement

Without spoiling, the world is made up of an act itself divided into several instances, which are themselves divided into several levels. You will therefore have to reach the end of the levels to complete the instances. With each death, you will start again from the beginning of the instance, that is to say the levels possibly covered, but as soon as you reach the end you will unlock the next area.

Each zone has specific vents allowing you to unlock classes and help, such as a little wolf who gives you a potion before a boss. With each death, you will return to your family and will be able to unlock various improvements, whether it is to improve your character with damage or critical strike, or to improve your rewards such as more gold or experience.

The big plus of Children of Morta is the family system, you can unlock several classes and they will have a lot of interactions between them. You can have passive boosts, for example John which allows you to avoid dying once all the other classes, or active buffs such as a life point regeneration, necessarily very useful. These upgrades are available for each class via a talent tree, which you unlock as you level up. It is quite simple because the talents quickly cost level points, suddenly we will tend to unlock all the talents available.

Duration and life and mode of play

A fairly short basic lifespan, the developers of Children of Morta have worked hard to bring new game modes. Even if the story remains quite fast with about twenty hours to complete the three acts, you can now keep your achievements (classes and improvements) to restart the game in new game + mode, being much harder and allowing you to continue to enjoy the game. You also have a new mode, family trials, completely separate from story mode, consisting of a fairly well built expedition series!

Balance sheet and note

What makes <span style="font-family: 'arial black', 'avant garde';">inlingua</span> different The -
- Wide and varied content
- The ultra-well thought-out family system
- Playable in 2-player co-op
- A very difficult retro gameplay ...

- ... but that will not please everyone
- A story mode too short!
- Less interesting in solo

Alchemists SlashingCreeps

Children of Morta is a good game, that's for sure. However, it will not appeal to everyone and I advise you to take a good look at this test if you are ever interested in it! It also takes on a lot more meaning when playing in pairs, the solo experience being too restrictive at my level!
4/5
