My analysis of Diablo 2 Resurrected, in order to balance Teleport and Enigma to give back their identity to the classes!

Problematic

The problem comes from the teleportation spell, which is much too strong and on its own breaks the class balance, especially in Softcore. This is also why you always have 90% of sorcerer at the start of the season. Then, we find Enigma which completely distorts the game, with teleportations in all directions.

Solve teleport problem

In order to have balanced classes, here is simply what could be done:

  • sorcerer: have 3 teleport charges on the sorcerer, with a gain every 5 seconds or simply consume a lot more mana
  • Amazon: Give character a base 20% movement buff
  • Assassin: Give character a base 20% movement buff
  • Barbarian: improve the speed of Leap, so that it can be used while moving
  • Druid: basic mobility buff by changing form and gain of a short tp for the elemental side
  • Necromancer: possibly swap places with a summon or teleport out of a corpse with a cooldown
  • Paladin: for me the paladin is already balanced with charge and vigor

Solve the Enigma problem

In order not to delete this runic word, we could have a specific buff per class:

  • sorcerer: gain of two charges or reduction of the mana cost
  • Amazon: 50% more movement speed
  • Assassin: 50% increased movement speed
  • Barbarian: improves jump speed
  • Druid: improves the gain for the movement speed and range of the short tp
  • Necromancer: decreases the cooldown of his teleport ability
  • Paladin: improves the stamina effect

Impact on early and late season PvE and PvP

With these changes, here is the quality of life brought:

  • Start of season:
    • you can play the class that makes you happy, without being afraid of being too far behind because of the witches who can ultra farm
    • the acts will be done in a standard way, without being able to "cheat" to teleport in all directions
  • End of season:
    • Enigma will become a choice among the others, without necessarily having to go get this runic word for farm
    • A rune drop buff of around 30% would be ideal, the goal not being to spend more time farming but for each class to regain its identity.
  • PvP:
    • real matches, without having teleports all over the place with limited interest

The other games, how do they do?

Here are some examples where all of these other games have taken the same approach. They came out after Diablo 2 and fix this problem:

  • Diablo 2 Median XL: each class has a short tp, the sorcerer can teleport but successive teleports cost more and more mana
  • Path of Exile: each class has a mobility skill
  • Diablo 3 and Diablo Immortal: each class has a mobility skill, the sorcerer's teleport being limited to charges

Patching teleportation and Enigma this way would be a great way for each class to be balanced and finally find their identities in Diablo 2 Resurrected. Even if being able to teleport in all directions on Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction with the addition of Enigma is part of the heart of the game, it remains a major problem that has been changed in all games released after Diablo 2 Lod !
