Calim and his superpower, hitherto unknown in the Diablo series

Calim has a unique ability, never before seen in Diablo. He can create a portal at any place he wants to teleport directly where he wants. As a reminder, city portals only allow us to return from where we are to the city, it has never been possible to create a portal to go to a specific place. We could in Diablo 3 get closer to this mechanism where you teleport on a player, however it is not a question of opening a portal but rather of a function facilitating multiplayer. Calim is therefore the only character who can teleport wherever he wants in the entire sanctuary.

There are also two other pieces of information to take into account, the first rather simple is the loading screen indicating "Diablo will return". For the second, it's during a shadow mission where you have to defend the onslaught of immortals who have managed to create a portal, red in color, inside the course of whispers. We will learn later with this quest that this technology is still under construction and that some do not work, while Calim can do it without worries. He would therefore have a power superior to the Nephalems and the immortals!

A far-fetched theory? Not only

There are two final pieces of information to consider. He is the only NPC who comes to retrieve an object, for all other quests, once the object is in your possession you will have to go back to the NPC to bring him this object. Blizzard could very well have kept this model, which would have made a lot more sense, but purposely chose to have Calim teleport to the artifact, collect it, and then return. What's worse is that you'll still have to go to town to collect your reward!

Finally, the reward obtained is very incidental and this NPC currently harmless. That is to say that Blizzard would have no trouble developing it, it would lose its old functions and become what it was intended for. It's the perfect placeholder, ie an NPC who quietly waits around the corner for an update.

A bit of lore on the Amber Blades, with an unfinished quest

To finish this investigation, here is the important information on the Amber Blades group, of which Calim is a part:

  • they were part of the same clan as the Scorpions of the Desert then separated
  • their former leader, Tabri retrieved Fahir's Scepter and rallied the people of Shassar to his cause, then declared war on the Desert Scorpions in order to stop their attacks and killings
  • being outnumbered, the Amber Blades had to take refuge and then Tabri left alone to confront the leader of the Desert Scorpions Varatos in the Shattered Realm to kill him, transferring command of the clan to Peth and asking him to keep an eye on him. Zav
  • this part is the scenario played during the curse of the scepter elite quest, in the end Zav managed to enter this realm and escape from it with the scepter while Tabri and Varatos are presumed dead
  • you can talk to Peth in town, which won't do much, but the quest dialogue ends with your character promising that "Zav won't get far with that scepter"

So there is still an unfinished part of this story, which may or may not be developed by Blizzard but potentially with a final link for this story!

Alchemists dm gaming

Clearly, Calim is highly suspect, whether through the various in-game clues or the way he can teleport anywhere. If this character was not made by chance, he will clearly have a role to play, due to his powers superior to the immortals and possibly the future host of Diablo! The story of his clan the Blades of Amber is very worked, it is one of the two elite quests and it is not finished!
