The Sentinel in a nutshell

The Sentinel is a class that specializes in close combat and damage taking. This character is for players who love sporting a shield and a sword while throwing themselves into the thick of battle to destroy their enemies, old-school style. The Sentinel has three masteries:

  • the Void Knight resembling a knight who has sunk to the dark side and uses occult spells to kill surrounding monsters
  • the Paladin who is the archetype of the white knight purifying evil with his fire and lightning attacks
  • The Forge Guard using powerful summons to aid them in battle (living armor, swords and shields)

Sentinel, Void Knight, Paladin and Forge Guard passives

Here are the important points to consider for the Sentinel:

  1. Fearless for vitality and life regeneration
  2. Armor Clad for nearby enemy damage reduction
  3. Juggernaut for strength and resistances
  4. Time and Faith for life and mana regeneration only if playing Smite, Multistrike, Vengeance or Rive

Here are the important points to consider for the Void Knight mastery:

  1. the chance and damage of critical hits including the Void Corruption point
  2. Void damage based on your playstyle, melee or spells
  3. the Void mastery for the Smite skill
  4. the defensive part with Eternal Form and Void Aegis points

Here are the important points to consider for the Paladin mastery:

  1. Attunement points that will boost your healing like Sigil of Hope or your spell damage like Smite

Sentinel, Void Knight, Paladin and Forge Guard skills

Basically with leveling you will have access to these skills:

  • Vengeance: a simple attack that will allow you to counterattack when you take a hit
  • Warpath: you turn around while brandishing your weapon and you move on the battlefield
  • Hammer Throw: you summon a hammer that will throw itself at the enemy before returning to you
  • Lunge: a movement spell that involves throwing yourself at the enemy
  • Shore: a circular attack that has several movements
  • Shield Bash: you shield your enemy
  • Javelin: you throw a javelin that passes through enemies
  • Void Cleave: a powerful area attack but with a cooldown

Spells to unlock from the Sentinel branch:

  • 5 - Rebuke: you channel a protection around you which reduces the damage and reflects a part of the damage suffered around you
  • 10 - Shield Rush: you move quickly in a straight line brandishing your shield
  • 15 - Multistrike: a melee attack that can create swords that smack nearby enemies
  • 20 - Smite: a spell that creates a bolt of fire and heals allies in the area of ​​impact

The unlockable spells of the Void Knight branch, the first with the choice of mastery:

  • 0 - Erasing Strike: a powerful area attack that creates areas on the ground (Void Rift) which itself inflicts damage when you kill an enemy
  • 5 - Volatile Reversal: return to the position where you were two seconds earlier by recovering life and mana spent since those two seconds
  • 10 - Abyssal Echoes: a spell that creates a shockwave that inflicts damage over time
  • 15 - Devouring Orb: a spell that creates a ball of Void that will itself launch Void Rifts if an enemy dies nearby
  • 30 - Anomaly: a spell that allows your enemies to travel in time (future then present on reactivation)

  • 5 - Healing Hand: a healing spell for you or your allies, the tree of this spell not yet developed
  • 15 - Sigils of Hope: a spell that summons runes around you and gives you damage and defense bonuses
  • 30 - Judgment: a powerful area attack that leaves an area on the ground healing allies and damaging enemies

  • 0 - Forge Strike: a powerful area attack that can summon a living sword
  • 5 - Shield Throw: you throw a shield at your enemy and ricochet off another which then comes back to you

Synergy with other classes

Although the Void Knight is more of a solo class, the Paladin and Forge Guard masteries can very easily adapt to a group and provide a lot of support:

  • Shield Throw, with the Aegis node can be thrown at an ally and give them armor and stun immunity
  • Holy Aura, this skill affects all nearby allies and provides damage and defense as needed
  • Manifest Armor, this armor is able to provoke enemies and therefore your allies will be safe
  • Sigils of Hope, this skill affects all nearby allies and provides damage and defense as needed
  • note that the Void Knight's Anomaly skill brings a lot of buffs to the allies but requires very good coordination

You will thus be able to find your place very well in a group composed of fragile characters such as Mages, Necromancer or Marksman. You will boost their damage, heal them as needed, draw the attention of your enemies to you while your companions will take care of killing them all.
