First Hors-Série article, I just really wanted to tell you about the end of the Hellbound series, which marked me personally and made me think a lot! This article obviously contains a lot of spoilers, so be sure to read it once the series is over!

Monsters choose their target

Element that we learn as the episodes progress is that the attack of the monsters is not a divine intervention to punish the sinners. It remains to be seen why these attacks happen, and here is the theory I have been thinking about that I think is the most likely. People are chosen and removed, although it remains to be seen for what purpose. It made me think strongly of the 4400 series, where several people go missing in order to play a specific role in saving humanity. This theory is also supported by the final scene, where you see Park resurrecting. As a reminder, this person had been killed 4 years ago by the monsters. She can thus either have managed to escape, or have completed her mission, or be ready for her mission. Still, there are a lot of question marks. Last point of this section, what happened during 4 years for Mrs. Park, I tried to see if she had aged, but it remains hard to say.

The path is just as important as the demonstration

The choice of people is not everything, but the person chosen and the time left to do is crucial. The most telling example is that of the first president of The New Truth, who because of the message received 20 years ago founded this empire and doctrine. If he had 30 seconds left to live as the college professor's daughter, it would have been much more complicated. On the contrary, the fact that this professor's daughter dies engages him in SODO and thus plays a key role in the story, if his daughter were still alive, he would not have played this role, and he had not no longer needed her daughter to stay alive for several days in order for her to perform an act, only her death was important. If you look closely, you will see that each character chosen plays a crucial role in the evolution of the plot, even the producer who had a secondary role!

Accept being burned and the fate of the baby

Key element of the series and most astonishingly is the way in which the convicts are killed. Each person is severely beaten to death and then burned, except the baby and his parents. The big difference between all these characters is that the only ones who have really accepted their fate are the parents, and thus the power of the monsters works on them. The other option would be that in this case, the monsters did not need to perform a show of force. There remains a key point, the outcome of the baby. He is the only person to survive a demonstration, is it like in Harry Potter where the parents protect him from death by the power of love? I do not have that impression of it. Rather, I have the feeling that the monsters never planned to kill the baby, and that the outcome was exactly what they expected from the situation, in short, that everything was planned.

The sequel for season 2

Here are the probable elements that will arrive in Season 3:

  • know the purpose of the monsters, that their plan be revealed in order to explain the choices of the characters of season 1
  • I do not expect a primary role for the baby, I think he has already played his role and that he will not have a role of "messiah"
  • I also don't expect a return from the inspector, who we don't hear about all of a sudden, after half the season!
