Build Sentinel Last Epoch 1.0, the Void Knight Hammerdin to destroy bosses and enemies with your Diablo 2 style hammers!
No change following Patch 1.0 Last Epoch.
Introduction
The Smite Hammerdin is a great classic of Last Epoch, the most used version is the one using the Paladin specialty. However, the Void Knight version has other very powerful advantages that can only be accessed by this specialty:
- The Void Knight specialty passive and its talent tree allow your skills to repeat, which includes your hammers but also your smites. The echo of the Void Knight is a significant trait for bosses and elites but also for groups of monsters.
- The Void Knight tree converts your Smite damage to void damage and upgrades based on your vitality instead of your attunement.
- The Void Corruption point of the Void Knight talent tree gives you a significant bonus on your critical hits based on the points invested in your tree which naturally allows you to inflict heavy damage.
- Your Smite turns purple, everything is nicer in purple.
Build Explanation
This build only works through a 2x2 idol giving you a chance to cast the Smite skill if a projectile hits the target. You will use 4 idols giving this bonus to increase to approximately 40% chance of launching a Smite on a target. The Sentinel has several throwing skills but the most effective is the hammer with the whirlwind specialty around you. Thus, you will throw several hammers around you and dive into the fray to summon a rain of Smite on your enemies.
However, you don't need any specific unique item for this build, the idols are generally quite easy to obtain. Consider taking the proper blessing on the “Fall of the Outcasts” monolith. It is strongly recommended to do this build only when you have obtained your 4 idols. Take these skills:
- Lunge: this movement spell will also allow you to heal yourself and launch Smites on arrival.
- Smite: You launch a bolt of lightning from the sky directly at your enemies. You will never launch it yourself.
- Volatile Reversal: this spell allows you to go back a few seconds but also to recover your mana and increase your damage.
- Sigils of Hopes: You summon small wisps that will boost your damage and defenses. You have to throw them manually against bosses.
- Hammer Throw: You throw hammers that swirl around you. Thanks to your idols, when they hit a target they have a chance to cast Smite.
Talent Tree
- Base class (20 points): Juggernaut, Fearless, Armor Clad, Stalwart, Valiant Charge
- Void Knight (72 points): Abyssal Endurance, Temporal Corruption, World Eater, Void Corruption, Void Bolts, Renouncement, Echoing Strikes, Eternal Form, Time Legion, Dread, Avatar of Regret, Void Flux
- Paladin (20 points): Defiance, Honor, Valor, Heavenfire
- Forge Guard (1 point): Steel Aegis
Items to collect
This build does not need a unique item to work, however you absolutely must collect 4 2 x 2 idols with the affix "Chance to cast Smite on hit with throwing attacks". For the rest of your equipment, favor the following statistics:
- Reduced mana costs of throwing skills
- Throw Skill Attack Speed
- Vitality
- Void and spell damage
- Armor and resistances
Gameplay
The gameplay is quite simple, you throw your hammers and run at your enemies. At the impact of your hammers, Smites will be automatically launched on the monsters, so you must have a maximum of hammers around you and adjust your position in relation to them. On the map, Sigils of Hope will launch automatically but on the bosses you will have to launch them manually then use Volatile Reversal.

History
Modifications and creation of the build according to the patches:
- 1.0: no change
- 0.9 : creation of the build
The Void Knight Void Smite Hammerdin is fun to play. It has a great area clearing capacity and very good single target damage. The Smite's Void specialty also allows you to focus solely on your vitality and resistances. However, you will need to have a little patience to get your 4 idols.
