Last Epoch crafting in a nutshell

Magical, Rare, and Exalted items can be modified through the crafting system, allowing you to upgrade your gear and make your character more powerful. The Last Epoch (LE) forge is very easy to learn and you will have no difficulty using it throughout your progress.

Here are all the terms you need to understand crafting:

  • Implicit : these statistics are directly linked to the base of the object and will be identical for the same base of object (here a "sickle"). There are a lot of different implicits, it's important to look for the right base object for your build.
  • Crafting potential : this potential characterizes the "durability" of your object to be forged. The more you modify it, the more potential you will consume. When the potential is at zero, it is no longer possible to modify your object. The rarer an item, the higher its base potential. It will therefore be interesting to craft an exalted base rather than a rare one.
  • Affixes : affixes are the bonuses that your item gives you. There are two types of affixes:
    • the prefixes which are offensive characteristics;
    • the suffixes which are defensive characteristics for you or debuffs on enemies.

Use of the Forge

To access your forge at any time, press the F key. You will then need to insert your object to modify in the box in the middle. Your object's affixes will automatically be highlighted on the right and left of the window. To increase a tier of an affix you must click one of the up arrows, which will automatically use the correct shard. To modify your object you will have to select a shard or a rune but also a glyph before starting the modification.

Glyphs, runes and tiers

Each affix has thirds that represent the power of the stat. Each tier allows you to reach a value within a range or “range” of the stat. The higher the tier, the higher the range values. The thirds and ranges of each affix are visible directly on your object when you press the Alt key:

Tier of an affixTier and range of an affix

The interest of crafting is therefore to reach the maximum number of affixes on an object by reaching their maximum tier, i.e. tier 5. The forge allows you to improve and/or modify the implicit and item affixes by consuming your crafting potential but also very specific items. These consumables are available at all times in your crafting inventory:

  • shards: these affix fragments can be dropped directly by killing monsters, rewarding monoliths or by destroying a non-unique object using a specific rune. You will consume a shard each time you raise your affix by one tier.
  • Glyphs: these 4 scrolls have unique abilities and can be dropped directly by killing monsters or as a reward from monoliths. Glyphs allow you to modify the affixes individually of your object. You can only use one type of glyph at a time:
    • Glyph of Hope: 25% chance of not spending crafting potential when you modify your item.
    • Glyph of Chaos: Increases the chosen affix by one tier while modifying the affix of the next tier. For example, if you use a Glyph of Chaos on a tier 2 cold damage affix it will move to tier 3 but with a new completely random affix like fire damage. However, it keeps the same type of affix, a suffix cannot be changed to a prefix.
    • Glyph of Order: Guaranteed value in the range of your next tier. If your value is strong in the current tier, it will be strong in the upper tier and vice versa. This glyph therefore allows you to remove the randomness of the ranges when changing tier.
    • Glyph of Despair: This glyph allows you to seal an affix on your item to free up space. That is to say that your item can then have 5 affixes instead of 4. If you succeed in sealing your affix it will not be increased. It's easier to seal off the weaker thirds. If an affix is tier 5 it can no longer be sealed.
  • Runes: runes allow you to influence the statistics of your item as a whole. They can drop directly by killing monsters or as a reward from monoliths. There are 7 types of runes, each with a unique ability:
    • Rune of Shatter: destroys an object and recovers shards of each affix available on the object. The number of shards obtained for each affix is random but depends on the affix tier.
    • Rune of Refinement: raises the value of all affixes of an item in its current range.
    • Rune of Removal: Removes a random affix from an item. You collect shards of this affix randomly.
    • Rune of Discovery: at tier 1 and randomly forge affixes in the unused lines of your item. This rune does not consume crafting potential.
    • Rune of Fashioning: raises the value of all the implicits of an object.
    • Rune of Ascendancy: Transforms the item into a unique item of the same type at random. If you use this rune on a wand you will have a random unique wand.
    • Rune of Creation: Creates a copy of an object. In return, the two objects created will have 0 forging potential.

crafting tips

Here are some crafting tips for each glyph and rune:

  • Glyph of Hope: remember to always use this glyph when you level up your affix.
  • Glyph of Chaos: If an affix of your object does not interest you, use your glyph on it to try to obtain an interesting stat. Opt for this option for generic statistics such as life or resistance.
  • Glyph of Order: if your affix is already at tier 4 with a high value use this glyph to ensure an equally high value for tier 5.
  • Glyph of Dispair: If an affix does not interest you and you fear not obtaining the desired stat, choose this glyph. Be careful though, they are quite rare to find, be sure of the quality of your object before embarking on this kind of operation.
  • Rune of Shattering: If the base of an object or the statistics do not interest you, destroy the object to obtain shards that you will use for your next craft. This option is particularly interesting for class shards such as +1 to a skill which are difficult to obtain by the drop.
  • Rune of Refinement: this rune is to be used before casting your Glyph of Order. Get a high value in the range before moving to the next tier.
  • Rune of Removal: Use this rune if you have two or three affixes that don't interest you on an item with a good implicit for your build.
  • Rune of Discovery: this rune is very interesting for the first characters in order to easily obtain rare items. It also allows with a little luck to obtain a useful affix to your build.
  • Rune of Shaping: if your implicits are very important for your build, such as a characteristic, use this rune. You can also use it if your affixes are already maxed out and you still have crafting potential to sell out.
  • Rune of Ascendance: Try your luck to get the unique you want. It allows you to obtain unique ones with low drop rates, with a little luck, this rune will save you hours of farming.
  • Rune of Creation: Use this very rare rune on a perfect item that can fit multiple character types like boots. This rune can also be interesting for builds using two one-handed weapons like the Bladedancer.

Unique, Legendary, and Legendary Potential Items

When you drop a unique item you have a chance to get Legendary Potential (LP) on it which can vary between 1 and 4. The Temporal Sanctum dungeon allows you to merge a unique item with LP with an exalted item to get a legendary item . Be careful, the exalted object must have available crafting potential. The LP value indicates the number of affixes you can fuse onto your unique item. The dungeon is available in 4 difficulty levels corresponding to the number of affixes you can merge on your.

Remember that merge affixes are random, so consider fusing an exalted item with several interesting lines for your build. Conversely, if you have an exalted item with 3 to 4 lines that are perfect for your build, wait until you drop the unique item you want with 3 to 4 LP. Once the items are merged, the retained affixes will turn red on your unique item.
